Struttin’ my stuff in Lucie Champagne:
First year of Uni done! Which means…Summer ball! Which also means…I need to find something nice and affordable to wear.
My go-to website for a nice dress is usually prettylittlething which is where this one is from. I was going for a sophisticated but simple look as I wanted to wear something summery and elegant but also something that was pretty in its simplicity . Known as The Lucie Champagne dress, I got this one at £28 which I thought was great value for money considering I thought the quality of the material was very good. The dress has a zip down the side and a halter neck tie round the back. There is also a slit on the side of the skirt which goes up very high and so I had this sewn up a little just so my whole thigh wasn’t on show. I also had the length of the dress altered as it was really long. The back is low cut which adds to the simplicity of the outfit but this meant I had to wear a strapless bra which I bought from Marks & Spencer’s for £25. I got it in a beige colour and it is really easy to use as it comes with adhesive strips which you stick onto the silicon labels on either side of the bra. I didn’t think that it would stick all night but to my surprise it worked really well and I didn’t have to think about it all night. I think you could easily not wear a bra with this dress but personally I like to have a bit of support.
What I love the most about this dress is how floaty it is. It really fits the body in a complimentary way as satiny materials can sometimes be unflattering but because this dress is sort of high waisted I think it looked really nice. Also, if you are short like I am, the waist line isn’t too low down so this works well with the halter neck as you can adjust the waistline to suit where it sits above your hips or on them.
The only problem I found with this dress is as I mentioned before, it was very long so I had to get it altered which meant I had to pay a bit more to get that done. Also, it creases very easily due to the nature of the material, but this should be fine if you carry it in a dress bag. BUT, Overall, I loved this dress because it was so elegant and also really easy and comfortable to wear.
